Introduction

Anti-phishing code is a security feature that allows you to make your digital accounts more secure against malicious actors who use phishing emails to steal your sensitive data or funds.

In this article, we will explain phishing attacks and anti-phishing codes and you will learn how to set your first anti-phishing code on DIFX Exchange.

What is a phishing attack?

Phishing attacks are a common practice among malicious actors to steal your sensitive data or money through fraudulent communications. This attack is usually performed through emails.

Phishing attacks fall under the social engineering category as the attacker should convince you that they’re legitimate. Here’s how they mostly achieve this goal:

Let’s say an attacker wants to target the users of a specific crypto platform. For the sake of simplicity, let’s assume the attacker already has a list of email addresses that they got a hold of in an illicit way.

Now, the attacker craft an email similar to the usual emails the users receive from that platform. They try to add some sense of urgency to the email as well. Something like “your account has been breached! Click on the link below to change your password now!”

The users open the email and click on the link before checking the source and legitimacy of the email. They are directed to a page similar to the login page of the platform. They enter their password and try to set a new one, however, it’s the attacker who’s receiving all this information.

The attacker can then use this data to log in to your account and steal your funds.

What is an anti-phishing code?

Anti-phishing code is a simple security measure that helps you recognize phishing emails. In simple terms, it’s a private phrase that you set on your digital account and the associated platform will include that phrase in every official email they send you.

In this way, it will be quite easy for you to notice phishing emails as they simply don’t include the phrase that you set on your account.
